A total of 69 new drugs have been added to the list of drugs covered by the province's pharmacare program.

The new drugs covered are used to treat various ailments including hepatitis C, and blood clots.

Health minister Sharon Blady says these additions will help Manitobans with getting access to the latest treatments and to manage their illnesses more effectively.

Blady says these additions will save Manitoba families $4.5 million a year.

Coverage for the new drugs came into effect on Monday.
