Attacks In Syria Escalate

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today to discuss the escalating attacks on Aleppo, Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says rebels have retaken an area that fell to government forces the day before, extending a punishing stalemate in the contested northern city.

The UN says nearly two-million people are without running water.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is condemning what he calls the "chilling" escalation in Aleppo and says the reported use of "indiscriminate" weapons in densely populated areas may amount to war crimes.

US Secretary of State John Kerry says what is happening in Aleppo is "beyond the pale."
