The president of the Manitoba Organic Alliance says the organic food industry is growing in Manitoba.

Kate Storey says there is a huge demand for organic products and the number of people showing interest in organic farming is increasing.

"It takes three years to transition a farm into organics, and so it's a slow process. The whole organic market in Manitoba is probably around two per cent of the agricultural market right now, but the demand could be double that or more. The supply is definitely increasing, we get calls from people fairly often who are thinking about transitioning. It's not a terribly easy thing to do, so we try to help them along."

The Manitoba Organic Alliance is holding their annual general meeting on April 23 in Winnipeg.
