Durston Honey Farms here in Dauphin is being recognized by the Provincial and Federal Governments about their Smart Hive project.
Last month the Provincial and Federal government announced that they would be investing $400,000 dollars into 10 research projects that are expected to provide practical, on-farm benefits to producers and Durston Honey Farms is included with the funding.
Manager of Durston Honey Farms, Allan Campbell says they received a $50,000 grant for their smart hive technology.
"This goes to remote monitoring of bee hives that are located away from where you are. So you don't actually need to go there and physically check up on these hives anymore."
Campbell says their project is still on going and they have a live prototype set up, but they are hoping to start using it shortly.
