An independent investigation into an alleged assault by an on-duty Brandon police officer has concluded their was wrongdoing, but not enough for criminal charges.
A woman had complained about an officer responding to a domestic dispute on March 16, alleging he assaulted her.
After a review of the incident, including video footage, a report from Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba civilian director Zane Tessler states the actions of the subject officer were uncalled for and unjustified, but no charges will be authorized against the accused officer.
He writes the paramount consideration is whether it's in the public interest for the criminal justice system to be used to deal with the matter. He also encourages the woman to pursue her complaint in other forums, and says the Brandon Police Service may want to evaluate whether further internal actions are warranted.
