A new fire truck will soon be making its way to the Dauphin Fire Department.

The City and RM of Dauphin have approved the purchase of a new truck which was needed after an electrical fire damaged one of the DFD's aerial ladder trucks.

Fire Chief Cam Abrey says the truck is currently located in Quebec, so the department trying to schedule a date to inspect the truck to see if it meets their needs.

"We'll take it out, we'll run the pump and see what capabilities we have with that. It has a 95 foot ladder with a working platform off of it, so we'll be extending that up and seeing the full controls on it. One of the other bonus points that we have out of the company that we're dealing with is they will deliver it to Dauphin for us as part of the package price, and they will provide two days of training for all the members of the fire department at that time once it's delivered here."

Brad Collett, CAO from the City of Dauphin, says city council will review the purchase of the new truck at Monday's council meeting.

Abrey says six tenders were put in for a replacement.
