This is Invasive Species awareness week, and the province is recognizing that by providing more funding to battle Zebra Mussels.
They are investing an additional $540,000, including a new fund to deliver Aquatic Invasive Species prevention resources to partners across the province.
The money will help fund community efforts to prevent their spread and to buy more specialized equipment, including high-pressure washers to clean watercraft.
Later this spring, watercraft inspection stations will be set up throughout Manitoba to help water users comply with AIS requirements.
Last year, no boats were allowed on Clear Lake due to zebra mussels being found in the water.
They were found there in November of 2023, and efforts to contain them the following summer proved unsuccessful.
