An organizer for the crocus photo contest says they have received a record number of submissions this year.

John Dietz says, this year, they have 185 photos, compared to just 55 last year.

Dietz says photos are coming in from places they have never gotten them before.

"We've had a couple entries now from the Dauphin area for the first time, we've got something from the Interlake, which is unusual. Even on the west end of Manitoba, from Russell. Another one is all the way over in Whiteshell, so from all over southern Manitoba."

Dietz says part of the reason they got so many photos is because of the the way the winter and spring shaped up.

Thanks to temperatures warming up earlier on, and some snow coming soon after, he says photographers had more time to find the flowers than usual.

"Quite often, we've had like three or four or five days or a week or something. This time, we've had a couple weeks or more to get the time together to find the crocus patch, get the photo, and send them in."

The deadline to submit photos has already passed. Winners will be announced this Saturday at the community hall in Arden.
