Manitoba's Nellie McClung is on the shortlist of women to potentially be featured on a new banknote.

An advisory committee has submitted a list of a dozen notable Canadian women to the Bank of Canada, which includes artist Emily Carr, and Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery.

The Bank will now commission a poll to get public input, then the advisory council and experts will choose three to five finalists for a final selection by Finance Minister Bill Morneau.

McClung played a vital role in the women's suffrage movement in Manitoba in the 1920's.
