Instead of three recesses, children at Gilbert Plains Elementary School could get two long ones.
Gilbert Plains Elementary School proposed the idea of having two long breaks instead of three 15 minute breaks to give kids more time for physical activity.
Mountainview School Division superintendent Donna Davidson says some schools have tested this but went back due to scheduling conflicts, so there still needs to be more discussions about it.
"Right now we're just in the preliminary stages with Gilbert Plains Elementary. We obviously have to talk with staff and we need to have conversations with the community and the parents and see if it's something that they would like to pilot."
The idea is to pilot the Balanced School Day approach in the 2016-17 school year.
