After being closed for sometime now, it's been decided Brandon's 8th Street Bridge will be demolished.
The decision was made at last night's Brandon city hall meeting. The vote was 9-1.
Scott Hildebrand, city manager for Brandon says that it was a tough decision for council.
"It's a main area, our main connection to our downtown, so we do need to think about that in the future and there's a lot of residents who are impacted by that so of course it's a very hard decision but when it comes to the financing it just didn't make sense."
The bridge is 82 years old.
Hildebrand says that it has been closed since summer and hasn't been safe for vehicles to drive on.
He says it would cost $35-million to fix it. They are going to come up with a plan that will allow them to build a corridor for both pedestrians and cyclists.
