The public had their chance to discuss local policing during a Town Hall-style gathering Tuesday night at the Parkland Rec Complex.
About 40 people attended the hour-long event hosted by the Parkland RCMP detachment.
Dauphin detachment Sergeant Scott Linklater led the gathering, and was happy with the turnout.
"I did not know what to expect, so I was happy that people showed up. I think it was a good start for having a town hall in this community."
Linklater feels more events like this need to be held in the future.
"I think we need to find ways to communicate better with the community so that we work together. And I think this is something that we do not do very often with the RCMP, and I think we need to start doing more of this. So this was one of those times that it was important for us to let the community know what we are doing, how we do things, and get some feedback from them and answer the questions that they may have for what we do."
Staffing levels at the Dauphin detachment, RCMP training, and a sharp increase in the number of weapons offences locally were among some of the topics discussed during the evening.
