The Parkland-NorMan Honour band is getting ready to perform in Dauphin tomorrow!
Six high school bands from the area will all be performing together, and actually just started learning yesterday what they are going to play.
DRCSS Band Teacher Andrew Coombs says having such a short time to learn new music can be a nerve-wracking experience for some of the students, but they are coming together nicely.
"The ones who have done it before are pretty comfortable, but some of the new students, maybe if it's their first year, might get a bit nervous. But it's amazing how quickly they learn the tunes. Even from yesterday to this morning, they've already improved immensely."
While two days is certainly a short amount of time for a band to come together, Coombs says the kids have received some great coaching.
"They do rehearsals with directors, but then we also have clinicians from Brandon University. We have students who are Music Ed or Performance majors who come and work with students in smaller groups to help learn the songs."
The Parkland-NorMan Honour Band will perform at DRCSS tomorrow at 1pm. Admission is by donation.
