The level of small business optimism in Manitoba has hit a low it hasn't seen in five years
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business released it's latest business barometer index ratings today.
Manitoba received a rating of 54.6 in the month of March, it's lowest level since 2010.
Marilyn Braun-Pollon, Vice-President of Prairie and Agri-Business for CFIB says there are some things the province can do during the budget to increase the level of small business optimism in the province.
"First of all, we need to get our fiscal house back on track with sustainable spending, but we also need to have some very basic steps taken to make us competitive from a tax environment. That's raising the basic personal exemption to at least combat inflation. We're one of only three provinces in the whole country that don't index our brackets to inflation. Things like honouring the election commitment that the Manitoba government did make to raise the small business corporate tax threshold to $500,000."
The province of Manitoba is currently under a communications ban due to a by-election in The Pas on April 21.
