The Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba is launching an investigation into alleged bribes by the province.

The Conservatives claim that Aboriginal Affairs Minister Eric Robinson met with the Chief of OCN last year, allegedly offering Hydro contracts for supporting Premier Greg Selinger.

Progressive Conservative House Leader Kelvin Goertzen says the supposed actions by the NDP are against the law.

"It is illegal for somebody to offer somebody something to vote in a particular way, or to try to stop them for voting. That is what we assume part of the investigation will be about, and we will let the investigation to play itself out, but clearly, if the allegations are proven to be true, they are serious and strike at our democratic process."

Robinson says he did meet with the OCN Chief last year to talk about Hydro contracts, but denies any accusations about bribery or coercion, saying that is just a made up part to the story. He ads that he has nothing to worry about in the investigation.

"We welcome the investigation if that is their desire. We're quite confident the Elections Manitoba people will find us to be in the clear with respect to this."

Robinson also says the timing of the investigation is convenient, and believes it is merely an election ploy by the Progressive Conservatives.

Goertzen, however, says they have launched several investigations into the NDP government in recent years, and that this one just happens to be during the election season.
