Kids at Henderson Elementary School are jumping for a good cause!
Each classroom has students raising money for the Heart & Stroke Jump For Heart fundraiser. This fundraiser encourages kids to get active by skipping rope while they collect pledges for heart disease and stroke research.
Joanna Wasylyshen, secretary for Henderson Elementary says that the money that students raise goes towards their "jump off event"
"Throughout the day all of the students filter into the gym and do different skipping rope activities. They work on different styles of skipping and they do mini contests."
Students were asked to collect at least $5.00 each. The school has a fundraising goal of $4,500.
Wasylyshen also says that this is a great fundraiser for the kids to take part in.
"This is an event that we have had at our school for many years. The money is going towards a good cause, and its fun for the kids! Also I think that community evolvement is very good. Like i said, it's a very good cause. It's activity, it's physical activity, it's fun. It's just good all around!"
Winners will be competing in an awesome challenge. Each class will participate in a "pie-in-the-face" activity against their teacher, and the top pledging class will take on the "Stomping Staff" in a dodgeball game after the jump off.
All students pledge envelopes are due this Friday. And the jump off event takes place in the Henderson Elementary School gym on March 8th.
Other schools in Dauphin that are participating is Barker School, Mackenzie Middle School, Whitmore School, Smith-Jackson Ukrainian Bilingual Elementary School and École Macneill.
In the Parkland area elementary schools in Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Ochre River, Roblin, Winnipegosis, and Swan River are taking part in the jump rope action as well.
