As things are, Manitoba's flood outlook for 2016 is a good one.
The province provided its first flood outlook of the season this morning, with Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation hydrologic forecasting and water management director Fisaha Unduche telling reporters the run-off potential for this spring is normal to below normal for most areas of the province, and there's no major risk for overland flooding as of right now.
Executive director Steve Topping says there is still the possibility of outliers, like the '97 storm or the late spring rains of 2014, so they will prepare for the worst case.
"I would have to say that this is one of the most favourable forecasts we've seen, but I caution, things can turn bad with a really outlier storm," said Topping.
The province says the flood potential is estimated to be moderate in the northwestern areas and minor to moderate in the rest of Manitoba.
