It is no secret that smoking is not exactly healthy for anyone, and the Parkland Humane Society wants to remind people looking to adopt an animal of that.
President Marie Roels will soon be putting advisories on the kennels that warn of the harm that second hand smoke could pose to cats and dogs.
She says it can be particularly dangerous to animals who live in the home because they sleep on carpets and beds that absorb a lot of the smoke.
Roels asks that people consider smoking when adopting an animal the same way they would with any new addition to the family.
"People look at it with babies and small children, and they quit smoking or they smoke outside. A lot pf people look at pets as part of their family, and they don't want anything to happen."
Roels asks that pet owners who smoke to do so outside, and dispose of the butts in a way that an animal can not get to it.
She hopes to have the advisories up in the next week or two.
