An Ethelbert man is facing charges of Assaulting a peace officer, refusing to provide a breath sample, as well as charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
RCMP say Marc Andre Dorais was arrested Friday afternoon.
Police allege an officer observed Dorais driving an unregistered van, and that when he was approached Dorais showed signs of having consumed alcohol.
Police also allege Dorais challenged and struck the officer, who was not injured.
Dorais has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court March 24.
