The low Canadian dollar could mean fewer American bands performing in Canada.

Countryfest President Eric Irwin says that is because American bands get paid in American dollars, meaning more Canadian dollars would be required to cover their fees.

Irwin thinks that might actually be a good thing for Countryfest this year, since groups like Lady Antebellum are already confirmed for this year's festival, but are unlikely to schedule other shows in Canada.

"We've got an excellent lineup. Those people won't be playing at the MTS Centre, so people are going to have to come to Countryfest to see them, so there could be an upside for us. It really has shut down touring for American bands in Canada."

On the other hand, though, he thinks American performers might seek out performances in Canada, as they could get a good deal.

"I think the ones coming from the States will be ecstatic because their American dollars will go farther when they buy goods and services in Canada."

Irwin says if the Canadian dollar stays low, it could mean more Canadian artists coming to Countryfest in future years.
