In celebration of its fifth anniversary, Countryfest Community Cinema is holding a fundraising gala next weekend.

It will feature live music, drinks, appetizers and an auction, with most of the funds going to support the cinema, and some to the Watson Art Centre.

GM Ron Suchoplas says events like this are sometimes needed to support locally-owned theatres.

"We are quite a unique cinema where we are, we're community owned. We're not just owned by some big company in Toronto where all the money siphons out there. So, having this gala not only reminds people that we have a cinema in Dauphin, but we encourage people to come out and see movies."

Suchoplas says the entire Cinema's board became energized for the event after seeing the huge turnout for Star Wars.

"We had people from Thompson,The Pas that drove out, and Winnipeg specifically just for Star Wars. So it kind of makes you feel good to see all the guests come out. That was the whole idea to build the theatre in Dauphin, is to have people come see movies, not just from Dauphin, but from all around Dauphin."

The fundraising gala will take place on Saturday, February 6 at 7pm at the Watson Art Centre. You can purchase tickets at the Cinema building.
