There's movement regarding Dauphin's new correctional centre, with the province now hiring for the design and construction of the facility.

Attorney General Gord Mackintosh announced the launch of the formal hiring process yesterday.

The province is seeking a design team for the new correctional facility, including an architect and construction manager to design and build it.

Mayor Eric Irwin says the City of Dauphin is working to ensure our water and wastewater systems can accommodate the facility and is committed to working with the Manitoba government to solve any logistical challenges that may arise.

In addition to the correctional centre, minister Mackintosh noted a request for proposal is being released to add an addition to the Dauphin courthouse and complete renovations to the existing building.

Changes to the courthouse will address public accessibility and fully modernize the building including the addition of code-related entrance and exits.
