The RM of Dauphin council is of the mind that the continued operation of the Hudson Bay rail line that carries grain to the Port of Churchill is important for local producers.

Council agreed yesterday to buy a $300 membership to the Hudson Bay Route Association.

"I hope that there is a continued service provided by rail to Churchill and this organization is one of the stronger lobby groups that work in that direction," says Reeve Dennis Forbes.

OMNITrax has put the Hudson Bay rail line and Port of Churchill up for sale, with the Mathias Colomb First Nation saying it's given a letter of intent to purchase. Mathias Colomb Cree Nation chief Arlen Dumas has invited other northern First Nations to join in a consortium that would own both enterprises.
