Skownan First Nation is one of the recipients of the 2015 Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards.
Skownan is receiving an award for sustainability in water and natural area stewardship.
The province says Skownan First Nation was instrumental in the designation of Chitek Lake Provincial Park -- the first provincial park with Manitoba's new Traditional Indigenous Use designation.
The Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone was given an honorable mention, with its former Lakeview and Westbourne municipalities donating of a package of conservation agreements to the Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation.
