Despite receiving threatening phone calls late last year, the Dauphin First United Church says there are no safety concerns regarding bringing in Syrian refugees.
A threatening phone call was made to the Dauphin First United Church back in November, and another was received by the Dauphin and District Food Bank.
First United Church Coordinating Rep Ron Marlin says RCMP handled the incidents well, and say no credible threats was made.
He believes that, in time, people will learn there is no harm in bringing in these refugee families.
"We think as the public awareness, especially through the media, keeps coming with the positive experiences of the refugees having arrived in other spots in Manitoba, that we are not going to have any issue here in Dauphin."
In addition to the Dauphin First United Church, the Dauphin First Baptist Church, and St. Viators Roman Catholic Church are also looking to sponsor Syrian refugees.

It is not known at this time how many families will be coming to Dauphin, or how large the families are. Marlin believes the specific numbers should be known soon, and says those with available housing for refugees should contact one of the three churches as soon as possible.
