Construction is underway on a new funeral home in Dauphin at the former site of Riverside Chapel, which was destroyed by a fire in late 2014.

Joe Coffey, owner of Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, says it's been a bit taxing not having that location, because that was their crematorium facility.

"We've had to put on a fair number of miles, you know, bringing people for cremation down to Minnedosa, but our neighbouring funeral directors have been really supportive and helped us out in that way."

Coffey says construction on the new facility, which will be called the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Centre, began just before snowfall. The hope is to have it finished by October 1.

He says it will have pretty much the same design as the old place after they renovated.
