The federal and provincial governments are investing a combined almost-$380,000 in a potato processing plant in Carberry.

The investment accounts for half the total cost of new equipment to be installed at a McCain Foods Canada facility.

The upgrades will reduce potato waste by 900,000 pounds per year and canola oil waste by 800,000 pounds per year.

The potato processing plant employs about 220 people, and 10 more positions are expected to be created over three years thanks to the new equipment.
