Almost half of all road fatalities in Manitoba this year have occurred in the last three months, according to data from Manitoba Public Insurance.

MPI says 34 people have been killed on Manitoba roads since September 1.

That's a 42 per cent increase compared to a five-year average over the same time period.

MPI says 71 people have already been killed in collisions on public roadways this year -- more than all of 2014.

MPI is encouraging motorists to drive cautiously and patiently this winter.
