Dauphin mayor Eric Irwin says some progress has been made on the correctional facility project for Dauphin.
Irwin says the project is currently awaiting financial approval from the Manitoba Treasury Board, and once that happens a construction contract proposal will be issued.
"The land it's going to situate on is in the industrial park and it's owned by the RM and the City. We sent a transfer of the requisite property to them sometime ago, and they're in the process of registering that transfer so that the land will be in their name, and then they can get started on the building."
Irwin was at the AMM convention earlier this week, where he ran for the position of cities caucus chair but came up short.
"We had an election and I ran and the mayor of Brandon ran and we tied, so I said well I graciously bow out, I don't need another unpaid job. I pulled out after Rick Chrest and I tied, Rick will do a good job on that."
The position of city caucus chair became vacant earlier this year when Chris Goertzen became the president of the AMM.
