Zebra mussels have made a home in Lake Winnipeg, but an aquatic invasive species specialist with Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship doesn't believe the lake is a lost cause.
Candace Parks says Lake Winnipeg will definitely change, but also says we shouldn't give up on it.
"There's other lakes and water bodies that have been invaded by zebra mussels and no one's said it's a lost cause. So for example, the Great Lakes have (had) zebra mussels there almost 30 years. Those lakes are not dead, it's not a lost cause. People still boat, they still fish, they still go to the beach there."
Parks says people will have to adapt to the presence of zebra mussels in Lake Winnipeg.
