Burning yard waste is a finable offense in the City of Dauphin, as the Dauphin Fire Department let two property owners know.
Fire Chief Cam Abrey says the fire department was called to two separate incidents of burning leaves in backyards yesterday.
"We do have a by-law within the City of Dauphin that restricts or prohibits such fires, so we gave them a warning, and we try to get the word out to all of our residents that it's not allowed to burn your garden waste or your leaves or anything like that."
Failure to comply with the by-law can result in penalties of up to $500 for each occurrence.
