They may not get a car, but students at the DRCSS are once again being given a chance to win prizes for good attendance.
Principal Norman Casavant says the attendance incentive program will be run exactly the same way as last year.
"If a student has 90 per cent overall attendance, and they have a perfect week with no lates, no absences, they'll get a ballot for a major draw that we'll do at the end of the year. The monthly is for perfect attendance, no lates, no absences, and again, there will be a draw for a prize that we have within the school. There's various conversations going on with the committee about what those prizes will be. And then the perfect attendance for the year where a student has no lates and no absences."
Casavant says the school is going to start meeting with community partners to talk about what incentives can be offered to students. Last year's big prize was a 1997 BMW, donated by the Hugh Guttman Family Trust.
At the end of last school year, Casavant said the program didn't much improve the attendance of the students it was targetting, instead giving a boost to students with already high attendance.
He says this time, the students the program didn't impact the way they wanted it to are the ones asking about the program's return this year.
