Manitoba Team Makes it to the Final in Hockey Contest

It is the only arena nominated from Manitoba in the Kraft Hockeyville contest, so they need everyone's help!
The St. Laurent Arena in St. Laurent, Manitoba is in the top 10 finalists, and they automatically have won $25-thousand dollars for an arena upgrade.
But with voting coming up this Sunday to get into the Top 2 and have the chance to win $100,000, Greg Morgan, VP of the St. Laurent minor hockey committee, says that they need everyone's vote.
"Just because we're not splitting the vote with anyone. All Manitobans can vote for St. Laurent. Our slogan has turned from 'vote for St. Laurent' to 'vote for Manitoba!' Manitoba has never won this competition. I'm not even sure if we've reached the top two at any stage."
Voting starts on Sunday at 8am until 11pm Monday.

National Mental health Strategy Coming?

Canada's top aboriginal chief says there needs to be a national strategy to fight what he calls a devastating suicide epidemic faced by indigenous communities across the country.

National Chief Perry Bellegarde with the Assembly of First Nations says his heart goes out to the people at Cross Lake in northern Manitoba, where six people have killed themselves in the last two months.

Bellegarde says it's a big issue, noting indigenous youth are up to seven times more likely to commit suicide than the national average.

He says there's got to be a national strategy on mental health, as well as supports, recreational facilities, proper education and the restoration of cultural pride among young people

Reason Sought In Calgary Funeral Shooting

Police are trying to determine if gangs played a role in a quadruple shooting 20-kilometres west of Calgary.

Gunfire erupted after a funeral for a 21-year-old Pakistani man at a rural cemetery in Cochrane, Alberta.

Four men are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Suspects are being sought by Mounties, who say it appears the shooting was not random or racially-motivated.

Daylight Savings Time Starts Tomorrow

This is the weekend most Canadians switch from standard time to daylight saving time.

Before going to bed tonight, turn your clocks and watches ahead one hour.

The time change does not apply to Saskatchewan, which is on central standard time year-round.

The entire country returns to standard time on November 6th.

Everyone from the cloverbuds to the adults will be squaring off to see who can give the best presentations.

"If they win at the club level, they then move on to the area level, and then, if they win here, they go on to the provincial level."

The speeches begin at 1 o'clock today at the Parkland Crossing.
