In the past, the group has hosted the Chili cook-off, however due to a lack of entries, the event was changed.
Eleanor Snitka, Outreach Worker for the Parkland Region of Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba, explains why an event like this is so important.
“I think it makes them feel like they belong,” explained Snitka. “You know many of us, myself included, suffer with mental health problems and it puts us all in an even keel ; we’re equals, we’re peers, no one is better than anyone else and we try to let people know that there is no one any better here than anyone else and that being with other people is such an important part to belonging’ which really helps with our wellness.”
The chili and bannock night had a few informational displays on mental wellness and the supper portion of the evening was a sellout.
