The Parkland U-18 Rangers came home with a split.

Playing a pair of games on the road in Manitoba's capital, it was a perfect start to the weekend for Parkland as they earned a solid 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Thrashers. Parkland ran away with the game by scoring three times in the third period. Quinten Fisk continued to sizzle to start the season as he scored three times while adding one assist.

Cade Legaarden (3) and Dayson Martin (3) scored for the Rangers in the win.

On Saturday, battled hard but came up short against the Winnipeg Bruins in a 7-3 loss. Quinten Fisk (15), Forrest Karlson (4) and Noah Smigelsky (5) scored for the Rangers.

Parkland has won eight of their 11 games this season and have a goal differential of plus-9.

It took the Dauphin Clippers just 30 seconds to score their first goal of the season and there was just nothing the Virden Golden Bears could do to stop the Clippers Ship as they played their first game of the season.

Ethan Zalischuk opened up the scoring and Dauphin never looked back in an 8-1 thumping at Credit Union Place. Boston Karlson was red-hot for Dauphin in the win as he scored a pair of goals while Norman Lacquette, Ethan Carnegie, Julien Lopez, Ronin Mouck, and Jorden Braun also scored for Dauphin in the big win.

Chase Glover earned his first win of the season in net and the Clippers are now off to Neepawa to play the Tigers on Sunday night.

It was a milestone night inside Credit Union Place on Friday.

As Dauphin battled back to earn two points, the win marked Doug Hedley's 400th win behind the bench of the Dauphin Kings. Hedley led the team to a Turnbull Cup title in 2022 and now has the team off to a 9-4 start.

Cayden Glover's seven-game goal streak was snapped in the game but he noted after that the main priority is two points, which the Kings were able to secure. Ethan Williment (5) scored the game-winning goal for Dauphin in the third, the Kings trailed 3-2 early in the final frame.

Matthew Thomas (4), Gavin Nemis (3), and Daniel Helary (2) scored for Dauphin in the victory.

Paired with the Blizzard only earning a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to Waywayseecappo, the Kings are just a single point behind Norman for first place in the West Division, with a game in hand which will be extended to two games on Saturday as Dauphin is idle.

At 9-4, the Kings will return to game action on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. as they welcome Jayce Legaarden and the Flyers to town for a rematch of last Sunday's game.

The Parkland Gators Swim Club is a competitive club that travels around the province competing in meets against the top swimmers in Manitoba.

For Isla Forsyth, getting the opportunity to challenge herself is right up her alley. She loves the thrill of making new friends and travelling with those friends to compete. Isla is entering her third season swimming with the Gators, this will be her first year in the competitive junior division. Isla knows the competition will be tough so she commits to three practices a week at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre.

"What brings me great joy is doing laps, I love improving my skill and spending time in the water," said Forsyth.

Dating back to last season in the club's beginner group, Isla showed great signs of improvement. While she wasn't overly pleased with her first performance at a meet in Brandon, she made great strides in preparing for a second try and made the most of it.

"I wasn't very experienced at the first meet and was under the weather, so it didn't go quite as planned," offered Forsyth. "I had more experience at the second meet and I knew more about what was going on, I was very happy with how it went."

Heading into this season, Isla is putting in extra work to achieve her goals.

"I have never won a heat before, so that's my biggest goal this season," ended Forsyth.

Get to Know Isla:

What is your favourite subject in school?  English and art.

What are some of your favourite activities besides swimming?  Ukrainian dance, jazz, tap, and modern dance.

Isla Forsyth is making great waves in the pool with the Gators and a bright future is ahead for the star swimmer from Dauphin.

Rylan Gibbs' junior hockey career will continue with a team that was an honourable mention this week in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20 rankings.

After playing three games and posting one assist to start the season with his hometown Kings, Rylan was traded to the Blind River Beavers of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). In 99 career regular-season games with Dauphin, the former Parkland Ranger star had 14 goals and 18 assists.

His 100th career regular season game at the junior level will come with the Beavers who are 10-4-1 this season. Their 21 points give them a five-point lead over the Hearst Lumberjacks while they're just three points behind the league-leading Greater Sudbury Cubs, who they will play on Thursday night.

The Beavers are excited to add the 20-year-old from Dauphin who possesses an outstanding shot and great skating ability.

Daniel Helary remembers being inside the famed Whitney Forum for games one and two as the Flin Flon Bombers went up against the Battlefords North Stars in round two of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) playoffs last year.

The Bombers scored 10 goals in the two games and swept the series before losing to Melfort in six games in the league final. Fresh off a great season with the Prairie Hockey Academy U18 Prep team that saw the rear guard score eight times and add 14 assists in 29 regular season games and four more points in three playoff games, Helary signed with the Bombers and was thrilled to join one of the most storied organizations in league history.

Daniel never played a game for the Maroon and White. He was acquired by the Kings earlier this year and has played six games since.

"It's been awesome here, the coaches are giving me great feedback and we have a great group of guys," said Helary. "It has been an incredible experience so far, I'm happy to be here in Dauphin."

If this weekend when the Kings welcome the Blues and Flyers to town is the first time you see Helary in action, you're in for a treat. Standing at 6'4", Daniel is a towering force that is great in his end and happens to be a threat in the offensive zone. Daniel busted onto the scene as an offensive producer with the Calgary Northstars U-16 team during the 2021-22 season when he had 15 goals and 27 points in 32 games. He followed that up with a great season last year at Prairie Academy as he progressed to the U-18 ranks.

"Growing up, I've always really liked scoring goals, who doesn't," offered Helary. "I've always tried to live up to that season when I scored 15 goals with the Northstars, I was very pleased about that."

Daniel debuted with the Blue & White in the team's 3-2 defeat against Portage on October 4. Eight days later, it was a night that Daniel will never forget. In a 9-4 win against the Winnipeg Freeze, Helary scored his first junior goal and added one assist.

"It felt amazing, almost indescribable to be honest, just happy to help the team win," continued Helary.

Helary has been in the lineup four times since that game and had an assist last Friday in Dauphin's tight loss against the Steelers. Across six games, he has one goal and two assists.

Dauphin's most recent action saw them lose against the Steelers then despite racking up 60 shots on Saturday, the team dropped a 3-1 decision against the Winnipeg Freeze. They quickly forgot about the past and focused on salvaging their three-game trip in Winkler.

"You can't change the past, so we just focused on moving on and bouncing back," said Helary. "It was up to us to decide what team we want to be, a chance to build something."

Dauphin responded in a big way as they put together an outstanding performance at the Icon Arena in a 3-1 win against the defending champion Flyers to win their eighth game of the campaign.

Helary had another great defensive game, created some chances offensively and it was all smiles on the 341-kilometre trek back to Dauphin.

"We know that we play them again on Sunday, so we wanted to set the tempo and we came out with two huge points," commented Helary.

Daniel and the Kings welcome the Winnipeg Blues to town on Friday night at 7:30.

On top of seeing Daniel in action on Friday, you can hear his full interview with Darnell Duff before that game after the 4:00 p.m. news, weather, business and sports on 730CKDM during the Dauphin Kings Power Play Show.

The preseason is over. Jason Alf was impressed with what he saw last weekend as the Dauphin Clippers played in the Glenboro tournament.

The team has been practicing for several weeks and come Saturday, it's time to play for real. Dauphin opens up the campaign in the Westman High School Hockey League on Saturday night when the Virden Golden Bears come to Credit Union Place at 8:30.

A definite strength of this year's team will be goaltending as they'll be led by Chase Glover. Chase has been with the Parkland Rangers program for the past four seasons, playing 27 games with the U-15 team before playing another 55 with the U-18 team. He won 18 games at the U-18 level and is expected to be one of the top goalies in the league.

Chase will be joined by Ben Miner and Ethan Myhre as the tremendous trio looks to push Dauphin in the right direction.

"We had a very good tandem last year which was led by Owen Chubka in his grade 12 year and you always wonder how you'll replace a guy like Owen," said Jason Alf. "To get a guy like Chase to come in during his grade 12 year is very exciting. We're also very pleased with how Ben and Ethan have looked, lots of excitement."

The rest of the team's roster looks like this.

Forwards:  Will Busby, Ethan Zalischuk, Ronin Mouck, Jorden Braun, Layne Wolfenden, Julien Lopez, Noah Hanneson, Drayson Demeria, Jesse Hockridge, Kenai Mouck, Josh Beyette, Boston Karlson, Josh Yakielashek, and Ethan Carnegie.

Defence:  Sully Fox, Cody Zurba, Samson Bourgouin, Riley Durston, Thomas Schmidt, Jaxon Bodnar, Norman Lacquette, and Lyric Smith.

"We're pretty confident with what we have seen from our guys," said Alf. "We believe that a combination of starting 20 guys will be quite successful this season."

The team's coaching staff includes Josh Yaschyshyn, Curtis Yaschyshyn, Drew Kulcheski, Rob Dreger, and Alf. Mitchell Rauliuk will serve as the team's trainer.

"Josh is extremely hungry after last year's top 4, he has been waiting to get back on the ice and has worked with Curtis for a while," said Alf. "Drew has some experience with us so a solid three there. Rob brings a ton of experience, he has been off and on since I started with the Clippers more than 20 years ago. Mitchell does more than just a trainer, he's an extra set of eyes and notices things that others don't."

Saturday's home opener is the first of two games this weekend as Dauphin heads to Neepawa for their first road game on Sunday. The team will host their 'Every Child Matters' game on November 1 to start a three-game homestand. Their last game before the break is the 'Christmas Classic' against Neepawa on December 20 at Credit Union Place and they return from the break on January 5 against Major Pratt. The team's regular-season finale is an all-Parkland matchup as Dauphin plays Swan Valley in town on February 23.

"We have a good veteran group that is coming back and is ready to go," ended Alf. "We have a few guys that played as grade nine affiliated players and  didn't look out of place, they've come back strong. Based on our performance in Glenboro, we will be a fast, hard-hitting team."

Dauphin will play in the Victoria Inn tournament from November 28-1 and the Piper Classic in Winnipeg between January 9-12.

Keep it locked to 730CKDM all season long as we keep you up to date with everything Clippers hockey.

Ranked second in the league with 45 goals, the Dauphin Kings have added some firepower up-front.

Ahead of two games this weekend against the Winnipeg Blues and Winkler Flyers, the Kings welcomed back Havyril Simchuk. From Kyiv, Ukraine, Simchuk played 27 games with Dauphin last year, scoring eight times while adding four assists.

Simchuk should add some solid depth upfront for a Dauphin team that has lost Nathan Lenoski to a lower-body injury. Lenoski has seven points in five games with Dauphin and is considered day-to-day.

Colby Cherneski has been a busy man in Calgary for the past few years building luxury custom homes.

The biggest build is just under 10,000 square feet featuring 10 bedrooms, nine bathrooms and an in-ground pool in the basement. Before moving to Calgary, Colby moved to Pilot Butte to play with the Storm of the Prairie Junior Hockey League where the Roblin native notched nine points in 15 games and also scored six more points in 14 games with the Grandview Comets.

Upon arriving in Calgary, Colby not only focused on building homes but also continued his hockey journey at the Junior B level with the CRAA Gold U21 team. He made a notable impact, scoring nine points in 22 regular-season games and adding a playoff goal in four games. After that season, Colby shifted his focus to work, stepping away from competitive play for a couple of years. However, he remained active on the ice through recreational games, and eventually, the desire to return to competitive hockey reignited.

Cherneski is three games into the new season with the Nanton Palominos of the Ranchland Hockey League. Nanton is one hour away from Calgary and the league includes the Lethbridge Lightning (3-0), Siksika Buffaloes (3-0), Fort Macleod Mustangs (0-3), Cremona Coyotes (0-2), and the Piikani Reign (0-2).

Being away from the competitive side of the game for two years, Colby is happy to be back doing what he loves.

"It feels really good, it's nice to be out there working towards something, after those two years off," said Cherneski. "It's nice to be out there fighting with our group, I'm very happy to be back."

Three games into the season, Nanton has two wins. They scored 11 times in a victory against Fort Macleod before putting up 12 in a win against Cremona. In their most recent game, Cherneski and the Palominos lost their first game in an 8-3 defeat against Lethbridge.

They sit in third place, just two points behind Lethbridge and Siksika for first. The team returns to the ice on Saturday when they head to Lethbridge to play the Lightning and Colby will be in search of his first point with his new team.

"It's a very high skilled league so it's taken me a bit to get used to," said Cherneski. "I feel like my third game was my best yet and I'm only going to improve and get more comfortable with reps. I'm back to my same old comfortable self, battling hard in the corners and doing what I love."

While he's 11 hours away from Dauphin, Colby still keeps tabs on the Parkland Rangers program. The Roblin native played 67 games with the U-15 team, recording 32 points before playing 95 games with the U-18 team.

Cherneski recorded the most penalty minutes (151) in the league during the 2018-19 campaign. Looking back, the Roblin star is grateful to have been allowed to play with the Rangers.

"It was the biggest moment of my career up until this point, I can't express my gratefulness and gratitude enough for everyone involved with the organization," ended Cherneski. "I still follow them diligently and I'm very proud to be a Parkland Ranger alumnus."

Colby will don his Rangers hat in support on Friday night when they play in Winnipeg against the Thrahsers before playing on Saturday afternoon against the Bruins.

For the second time this season, a member of the Parkland Rangers has been recognized as a CCM Hockey Player of the Week.

This time, it's one of Dauphin's finest as Quinten Fisk has received the nod after an incredible weekend. In three games over the weekend, two of which Parkland won, Fisk had four goals and four assists.

After failing to record a point in the team's setback on Friday against Southwest, Fisk took over as the team made their way to Swan River for a pair of games against Norman. On Saturday, he scored the team's first two goals and added three assists as the Rangers beat Norman, 7-3.

Then on Sunday, Fisk was front and centre again with two goals and one assist as Parkland secured two more points in a 3-2 overtime win against the Northstars.

As the Rangers sit on top of the league with 14 points, Fisk sits on top of the scoring race with 11 goals and 18 points. No one has scored more goals (11) than him and he's averaging two points per game.

UPDATE: October 22 @ 3:50 p.m.

The Terriers have announced they will appeal the recent decision by the league to deduct points from three of their games due to the alleged use of an ineligible player.

In a release, Terriers President Curtis Malysh had the following to say.

"We owe it to our players, fans, and the entire Yorkton community to appeal this decision and uphold the integrity of our team."

Further updates will be provided once they become available.

The Yorkton Terriers are now on the outside looking in after some breaking news was handed out by the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League on Monday.

The Terriers have forfeited games on October 11, 16 and 18 against the Nipawin Hawks, Estevan Bruins, and Melville Millionaires. This came as a result of the use of ineligible players. While the players involved will be credited with personal stats, the team has been docked six points.

As a result, the Terriers now are 5-6 on the season and sit in ninth place. They were 8-3 and on top of the league standings before the news.
