The Dauphin Kings have added two more skaters for the upcoming season.

What is the future of the Western Canada Cup?

The Grand Plains Celebrity Golf Classic is July 16th at the Gilbert Plains Country Club.

Cost is $400 for a foursome.

Several celebrity golfers will be announced over the coming weeks.

Golfers will have the opportunity to bid on celebrity golfers to join their group of four the morning of the tournament.

Half of the proceeds raised go towards Grand Plains Minor Hockey.

The final celebrity announcement is....

JENS MEILLEUR

Meilleur from Marquette, MB played four years for the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2010-2014. He wore an A in his last two years with the Wheaties. The dual citizen decided to take his talents over seas after junior hockey, plying his trade for the EC Kassel Huskies of the D-E-L 2 league in Germany.

Previously announced celebrities include:

RYAN PULOCK

Ryan Pulock began his hockey career with Grand Plains Minor Hockey at a young age. A former Wheat King, Pulock was drafted 15th overall to the New York Islanders in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Pulock was called up to the big club toward the end of the 2015-16 season dressing for 15 games. The Isles kept Pulock around for their playoff run where he became a key piece of their defensive corps, notching 3 points in 6 games.

LEAH HEXTALL

Niece of Dennis Hextall, and cousin of goaltender Ron Hextall, Leah is a professional Sportscaster who started her career in Brandon. Currently she works for Rogers.

Prior to joining Rogers she worked for American regional sports network giant NESN and was a big part of the Red Sox World Series win.

JEFF STOUGHTON

The retired Winnipeg-born curler is a three-time Brier champ, and two-time world champion as skip. Stoughton is known for his 360° "spin-o-rama" delivery, where he comes out of the hack, spins around and then throws the rock. Stoughton does this to entertain fans, but does not usually do it during games, except for meaningless shots. He performed the move in a cameo appearance in the 2002 Canadian rom-com film Men With Brooms.

COLBY ROBAK

The latest celebrity for the Grand Plains Celebrity Golf Classic on July 16th is Colby Robak from Gilbert Plains. Robak was drafted by the NHL's Florida Panthers. Last year he played with the AHL's Rochester Americans. He spent his junior years with the Brandon Wheatt Kings, during his last season there he was named as a member of the league's east second all-star team.

JOSH CRABB

The newest celebrity announcement for the Grand Plains Celebrity Golf Classic is Josh Crabb. Crabb is a sports anchor and reporter for CTV Winnipeg. He was born and raised in Roblin and is a graduate of Assiniboine Community College's Media Production program.

BLAINE STOUGHTON

Stoughton was drafted 7th overall by the Penguins in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. He played his major junior career with the Flin Flon Bombers, scored at least 50 goals in a season in the NHL twice, and scored at least 40 goals four times. Blaine is the former head coach of the University of Cincinnati club hockey team as well.

KOBY MORRISSEAU

Morrisseau is from Grandview, and was drafted 9th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft by the Spokane Chiefs. Morrisseau played for the Parkland Midget Rangers last year and put up 15 points in 17 appearances. Morrisseau will be attending the national under-17 development camp in Calgary later this month.

In 30 games with the Warriors Brook notched 10 points. Prior to joining Moose Jaw full-time Brook played for Notre Dame of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League.

Baseball Canada has elected its 11th President in its 52-year history.

The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame will Induct 9 new members on November 5th.

Darren Kramer of the Manitoba Moose was arrested following an incident at Disney World.

Two Parkland athletes have opportunities to represent Canada.

Team Parkland has named its final Male and Female teams which will compete in this summer’s Power Smart Manitoba Games in Steinbach.

The process began over a year ago with the initial tryouts. Practices continued throughout the summer of 2015, with time being split between Swan River and Dauphin. The teams competed last summer in a soccer festival in Carman, then continued to work through the winter with indoor practices and fitness testing. In April the teams participated in a Regional Indoor Festival at the Subway Soccer Complex at the University of Manitoba.

Training resumed in May and the final tryout occurred during a Regional Festival in Selkirk. Both teams played well with the Girls defeating Kenora 1-0 in their final game of the weekend. The Boys final game of the festival ended in a 1-1 tie, also against a team from Kenora.

Following the Selkirk festival both teams made their final cuts down to the 16 player roster for the Manitoba Games.

Both teams had between twenty and twenty-five players trying out at various points over the year. Some dropped out themselves while others stayed on to the end, giving the coaches some tough choices to make. With the U13 category being predominantly for players born 2003 & 2004, the older players had some advantage in the final selection. However, a few 2005 players will be part of the team representing the region this summer.

The team will continue to train over the next seven weeks and will take part in one final Regional Festival on July 23 & 24 in Portage la Prairie.
