Ronin Mouck was a happy man when he got home on Sunday night.
Finally taking a moment to relax, Ronin reflected on a weekend to remember and an incredible athletic school year so far. The Gilbert Plains native and senior at Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS) kicked off his year on the gridiron, joining the school’s football team at 17.
In his debut season, Mouck made a massive impact. Dauphin dominated the regular season, finishing first with six wins in seven games and racking up 288 points. Ronin proved unstoppable, tallying 121 rushing yards, 516 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. He was a defensive powerhouse too, adding 16 tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Though the team’s playoff run ended in a shocking upset to Moosomin, Mouck looks back on his football experience with pride and gratitude, calling it an unforgettable chapter in his athletic journey.
"It was a successful year, I know our coaches were happy with us, we had a great group of guys," commented Mouck. "Although we lost, it was still a very fun year and I'm happy that I was a part of the team."
When the football season ended, he traded his pads for a hockey stick and basketball. Mouck is now shining bright with the Dauphin Clippers varsity boys' basketball team and hockey team. On the court, the Clippers have played two tournaments in Brandon and over the weekend at the Big Cat Invitational.
At the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational (BSSI), the team finished in third place after beating Carberry, 76-64. Over the weekend in Sanford, Dauphin finished as finalists after a defeat against Linden Christian in the final. Before that loss, Dauphin dominated in wins against Westgate and Stonewall.
The team has won six of their eight tournament games this year.
"Our team is coming together very well, we practiced over the Christmas break to stay sharp," said Mouck. "We didn't shoot very well in that final against Linden Christian and that happens at times. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, our goal is to win a provincial championship."
Mouck is delivering a season to remember, determined to make his mark and unlock future opportunities as graduation looms. The Gilbert Plains standout shined at the Brandon tournament, averaging an impressive 20.6 points per game with 43 rebounds, eight assists, and nine steals. He capped it off with a stellar 24-point, six-rebound, five-assist performance in the team's third-place triumph over Carberry.
Not slowing down, Mouck turned heads again in Sanford, averaging 23.3 points per game alongside 19 rebounds, 18 assists, and five steals. A relentless competitor, Ronin thrives under pressure, proving he’s the go-to player when it matters most.
"I'm an all-around type of player. When my team needs me to get points or rebounds, I do what I can to help," said Mouck. "I'm also a strong defensive player, I just try to do anything I can to help the team win."
Mouck commented on being one of the team's leaders alongside Nick Hudyma. The dynamic duo has given their opponents fits to start the season and much of the same can be expected moving forward.
"It feels great, knowing that they can depend on me, I like knowing that," continued Mouck. "People depend on Nick and I to execute and I enjoy that type of pressure."
After wrapping up his basketball duties in Sanford, Ronin wasted no time, hitting the road to join his hockey squad in Winnipeg for the B-side final of the Piper Classic Tournament of Champions.
Although the Clippers fell short against the John Taylor Pipers, the weekend was a success as Dauphin battled well against some of Manitoba’s top teams and secured key victories along the way.
Now back home, the Clippers are gearing up to continue their strong campaign in the Westman High School Hockey League. With an impressive 11-4 record, Dauphin boasts the league's third-best goal differential, netting 96 goals while conceding just 37. They closed out 2024 on a high with a Christmas Classic win over Neepawa and roared into 2025 by dismantling Major Pratt in a 12-2 victory.
Next up, the Clippers hit the road to face Minnedosa on Tuesday before returning to the friendly confines of Credit Union Place. They’ll host Crocus Plains on Friday night at 7:30 and face the league-leading Vincent Massey Vikings on Saturday at 4:30. The undefeated Vikings, riding a 20-game win streak, have racked up a jaw-dropping 163 goals this season, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.
"We're having a blast this year. If you're not having fun, things can go wrong but that's not the case with this group, we have a great team," commented Mouck. "We have a ton of skill and great coaches leading us. We believe we can beat anyone if we stick to the game plan and compete for an entire 60 minutes every game."
Just like he's dominating on the basketball court, it's been an outstanding season on the ice personally for Ronin. He's second in team scoring with 19 goals and 32 points with his 19 goals being the most of any player on the team. Playing on a line with Ethan Carnegie and Julien Lopez, the tremendous trio has combined for 98 points in regular season play.
Mouck had two goals and three assists in the team's recent league win against Major Pratt and his best game of the season was a four-goal, one-assist performance against Birtle on November 15. He also secured a hat-trick on October 27 against Neepawa.
"I like to put the puck in the back of the net, it's what I do," ended Mouck. "I have to give a ton of credit to Julien and Ethan as well, we have some great chemistry and we work together to be efficient."
Ronin has his sights set on playing basketball at the next level, but for now, his focus remains firmly on leading his teams to victory. Whether it’s dominating on the court or lighting up the ice, he’s determined to give it his all and help his teammates succeed every step of the way.
