Credit Union Place is no stranger to hosting big events and later this month, the largest sports venue in Dauphin will once again take centre stage.
The Dauphin Clippers varsity volleyball program is set to host the Manitoba High School Athletic Association's provincial championships. The event will take place from November 30 to December 2 and it will feature the top 'AAA' varsity teams in the province.
Besides the Final 4 of the 'AAAA' provincials, provincial championships are normally just held in high school gyms. Dauphin, as usual, will be going above and beyond.
Chris Wolfenden is the head coach of the varsity girls team and he says the excitement of playing in an arena continues to build.
"There will be a lot to watch and a lot to process for both fans and players," said Wolfenden. "It's fascinating to be able to play in the biggest venue in Dauphin. I think the girls are excited to feel like they're in the big time."
The women's team has won two of the past three tournaments that they have played in this season and most recently, they went perfect at their home tournament.
Thanks to their success, the Clipper girls have vaulted up the power rankings as the team is now ranked fourth in the province. That's up six spots from last week when they were ranked 10th.
"We have a lot of strong momentum right now," said Wolfenden. "We started our season testing ourselves at 'AAAA' tournaments and I believe that has been beneficial. We're definitely trending in the right direction and we will be ready to go come November 30."
While the boys team is not ranked as of now, they also won their home tournament this past weekend and have some top-end talent that they will showcase at Credit Union Place. Don't forget to continue to check the tournament's Facebook page daily for player profiles leading up to first serve.
