The Dauphin Clippers varsity boys basketball team has continued to climb up the Power Rankings.
Earlier this season, the team was ranked as the fifth-best team in the province in the "AAA" category. They also reached number three in the province. Since that, Dauphin finished in third place in a tournament and they've also won a tournament.
Now, the Clippers are ranked as the second-best team in Manitoba in the "AAA" category.
"It feels good to be ranked up so high," said John Marshall, Head Coach. "The province is extremely competitive. If that's the ranking the MHSAA is giving us, we have to show that we deserve it."
"We have a great group of players, they play well together and there aren't any egos," continued Marshall. "I have a different high scorer every game."
This past weekend, the team went a perfect 3-0 to win a tournament in Brandon. They won every game by a minimum of 15 points. Right now, the only team that is above Dauphin in the rankings is the Westwood Warriors.
In a meeting earlier this season, the Warriors narrowly got past Dauphin by six points.
"Playing that close game with them, that shows that we're right there with them," continued Marshall. "That was a great measuring stick and I'm really happy about that game with Westwood, the guys battled hard and it came right down to the wire."
Dauphin has two more tournaments this season and they come back to back. Next weekend, they're in Neepawa and they play in the Winkler tournament the following weekend.
"We'll go into those tournaments with the mentality that anyone can win," concluded Marshall. "We can't sit back and take anyone lightly. We need to communicate, hustle, and execute and if we do those three things, we can be successful."
