The Dauphin RCMP is on the case after a series of breaks and enters in the city.
Officers were called to a residence on 3rd Avenue at roughly 3:15 am on Monday morning, and the homeowner advised someone had entered the residence and stolen money from one of the rooms.
While searching for the suspect with Police Dogs and drones, officers found a male who matched the description provided by the homeowner.
Through their investigation, officers believe the same suspect is responsible for at least five break-and-enters in the south end of Dauphin, possibly more.
Jayson Dumas, 18, of Dauphin has been remanded in custody and is being charged with 11 offences related to Breaking and Entering.
RCMP are looking for additional video or photos from residents in the SW/SE area of Dauphin, or if anyone has come in contact with Dumas to contact the detachment at 204-622-5020

The final fundraising numbers for this year's Journey for Sight snowmobile ride are now in.
Dauphin Lions Club president Dean Lounsbury crunches the numbers.
"We had a 50/50 draw that brought in $3,000, which brought our total to $41,640. And then we had a group of riders out of the South that did a one-day ride on the Sunday after we wrapped up our ride, and they raised around $7,000. So we are close to $50,000."
Lounsbury says the final amount is simply remarkable.
"For 12 riders that started in Flin Flon and a group of 10-15 riders in the south, that is unbelievable. It was a great job by everybody."
Money raised through the ride will go to the Eye Bank at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg
This year was Lounsbury's 25th year being involved with the ride, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026.

After 53 years with Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, Stephen Roznowsky clocked out in January of 2022—but his real work never stopped.
A tireless volunteer, he’s been the backbone of the Dauphin R.I.D.E. program for 25+ years and the driving force behind the local Terry Fox Run, helping raise over $70,000.
From feeding students through the Food for Thought program to lending a hand at the Watson Art Centre, Stephen is everywhere. He holds an honorary lifetime membership with Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival and has spent 48 years volunteering at the Winnipeg Folk Festival—with no plans of slowing down.
Retirement? Sure. But Stephen’s passion for giving back is still full speed ahead.
"I still have energy to give to the community and it makes me feel good," said Roznowsky. "I pick and choose things that I enjoy doing, I have fun. I get the chance to meet different people and spend time with them. There's a very tight-knit of incredible volunteers in our community and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

Stephen also volunteers at Dauphin's Countryfest and earlier this month, Stephen was on hand at Credit Union Place and was recognized for all of his incredible contributions. He was presented with the “King Charles III Coronation Medal” created to recognize select Canadians for their contributions to this country and their communities.
Stephen was presented the medal by Member of Parliament, Dan Mazier.
"It was a total surprise, I had never even thought this was going to be about me when I was called down to the ice," said Roznowsky. "My mouth was probably open right down to the ice."
The Dauphinite says the community is an extremely special place and while he doesn't volunteer to be recognized, it's always a nice touch.
"It was very special. I am still pinching myself, not quite believing that it actually happened," ended Roznowsky. "I look more for the camaraderie, not the recognition. Someone went out of their way to fill out my name and all the forms, that means a lot to me and thank you to whoever did."

The RM of Dauphin has announced that they will be seeking a replacement Chief Administrative Officer, as their current CAO has resigned.
According to Reeve Ernie Sirski, Nicole Chychota has served the RM for roughly 7 years, and he's sad to see her go.
"Well, unfortunately, Nicole has tendered her resignation and her last day will be March 25th I believe. She will be moving on to the city of Portage, and be the city manger of Portage La Prairie"
The RM sends its thanks for her many years of service and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.

Parkland Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a second Lunch and Learn event in February.
Set for next Tuesday at the Parkland Rec Complex, Chamber Executive Director Stephen Chychota says this one is entitled "Future Forward".
"It is regarding Indigenous relationships and some of the opportunities that some organizations that we have in Manitoba have going on. And some of their perspectives and what they can share with our local business community on what they can take advantage of, what they can get involved with and what they can get their staff involved with or be mindful of what is coming down the pipe."
Representatives from the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Metis Council, and Assiniboine College will all be speaking at this event.
Tickets must be pre-purchased by contacting the Chamber in person or through their website.
There are special rates for both members and non-chamber members.

Two water wells, #6 and #7 on the Ebb and Flow First Nation are not producing water for the Water Treatment Plant.
An investigation into why has begun and contractors are working towards a plan to navigate this issue. This water crisis is weighing heavily on the community.
Chief and Council are working to get the crisis under control and the water back up and running for the community. Water delivery trucks are filling up the water reservoirs daily. Red Cross has donated jugs of water to the community providing two jugs per household.

People needing assistance with getting identification are encouraged to attend the West Region Tribal Council ID clinic this Thursday.
Sandra McKay with WRTC describes some of the agencies that will be present at the event.
"We are going to have Canada Revenue and Service Canada, as well as the SEED program out of Winnipeg because they do the birth certificates for free."
Pederson Photographic will also be on hand to take photos of people wanting to get their passports.
This event was supposed to be held back in November but was postponed due to the weather.
McKay says the importance of it is why they rescheduled.
"I have had phone calls and emails, making sure that this is still going on. It is still a go so far."
All of the services will be provided for free at this event, which goes from 9 until 4:30 on Thursday at Unit-C, 21 - 3rd Avenue North East in Dauphin.

Relief appears to be on the way from the bitterly cold temperatures that we have been experiencing.
An extreme cold warning for the Dauphin area is well into its second week of existence, but Environment Canada says temperatures should be near ot even above normal by late this week.
Normals for this time of year are -5 for a high and -17 for a low.

A federal court hearing in Manitoba this week focused on a debate over how to adjudicate Treaty 4 rights.
Chief Derek Nepinak of Minegoziibe Anishinabe First Nation is helping spearhead this mission with a statement claiming Canada allegedly violated treaty agreements by not increasing $5 annuity payments to treaty members to account for inflation.
In a statement of defense, the federal government argued that it is not liable for any damages and only owes the annuity obligation of $5 per treaty member, as specifically written in Treaty 4.
Nepinak's lawyer, Michael Rosenberg, says a class-action suit would allow his clients to immediately bring together as many as 74,000 beneficiaries of Treaty 4.
The proposed class action is seeking $100 million in damages, an accounting and compensation for "unpaid or underpaid" annuities, and changes to the annuity agreements so that the payments reflect inflation, along with other relief.

Today is Louis Riel Day, where we celebrate the Founding of Manitoba and the man who made it happen.
The Métis leader of the Red River Resistance of 1869-70, Louis Riel was instrumental in drafting the List of Rights.
This formed the basis of the Manitoba Act, which was passed by the Parliament of Canada in the spring of 1870 and brought the new province of Manitoba into Confederation.
Nearly a year ago, Riel was formally recognized as Manitoba's first premier under The Louis Riel Act.
Northwest Metis Council Vice President Francis Chartrand highlights the importance of highlighting this heritage.
"I think it's important for all Manitobans to know who the first premier of Manitoba was. Louis Riel brought Manitoba into Confederation, so we have to always understand that."
Today offers a wealth of knowledge and comradery, as several events will take place this afternoon, starting at noon.
Metis Community Centre will be holding music, dancing, and more.
Notably, the events scheduled at the Fort Dauphin Museum Have been canceled due to the extreme cold.
Vice President Chartrand invites anyone interested in learning about Metis culture and history to come out today or stop by the Metis Office on Main Street any time they are open for more information.
