Manitoba Beef Producers are keeping a close eye on a US bill that would end Country of Origin Labeling.

The bill to end the controversial law has passed through the House of Representatives and will now have to go through the Senate.

MBP GM Melinda German says the end of COOL would be beneficial for the beef industry in Manitoba.

"Manitoba was really impacted by COOL just because of our historical trade with the US, a lack of plants here in Manitoba and just out proximity to the US. We did a lot of trade with the United States. What we're hoping this will bring is more market options, which will lead to market stability for us."

German says members of the MBP are happy to see the American government taking this issue very seriously.
