The City of Dauphin is lagging behind when it comes to recycling, and the city has created a new summer position to try and fix that.
Brandon University student Shelby Tycholes is identifying homes that don't recycle and trying to work with the residents to bring them on board.
Tycholes says she's been touring the city with Parkland Regional Recycling.
According to her, several Dauphinites aren't doing their part.
"Dauphin has been contacted by the province just to say that our rate is a little low and we need to get it up."
Tycholes is also contacting apartment complexes with eight or more units and offering free recycling bins-- something CAO Brad Collett says the city is required to do under the terms of its recycling contract with Parkland Regional Recycling.
Collett says council also has a desire to increase recycling participation.
Households and smaller apartment complexes will be dealt with individually. Tycholes will try to resolve whatever issues they have and will try to steer them towards recycling.
