An emergency room doctor says a senior who collapsed and died after being sent home from hospital in a taxi should have been admitted.
Dr. Stanley Whyte testified yesterday at an inquest into the death of 68-year-old Heather Brenan, who died of a blood clot in her lung.
Whyte says Brenan was very sick when she arrived at Seven Oaks hospital in January 2012 but there were no open beds and not enough doctors for the patients in care.
He says an ER department can't function as both an ER and a medical ward.

Frost Strikes Producers
Producers are hoping they won't have to do any reseeding following the recent frost that has hit most of Manitoba.
Anastasia Kubinec, oilseeds crops specialist for Manitoba Agriculture, says signs of damage usually start to appear at least 24 hours after the frost event happened.
She advises producers to also scout at the 48 and 72-hour marks.
Kubinec says the rain over the past week should have helped to insulate the crops against frost damage. She adds the most susceptible crops include canola, flax, edible beans, soybeans, and corn.

Five Dead, Hundreds Injured In Philadelphia Amtrak Crash
The US National Transportation Safety Board says its investigative team will soon arrive at the site of an Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia.
All seven cars, including the engine, of the passenger train bound from Washington DC to New York City derailed last night, killing at least five people and sending 140 others to hospital.
A Philadelphia man who lives nearby says it sounded like ``a bunch of shopping carts crashing into each other.''
He says the sound lasted for a few seconds, and then he heard chaos and neighbours started screaming.
Mayor Michael Nutter says there were train cars completely overturned and ripped apart.

Nepal Regroups After Second Earthquake
Thousands of fearful Nepalese spent a second night outdoors after yesterday's new powerful earthquake that killed dozens of people.
The death toll from the latest temblor is at least 65, with nearly two-thousand others injured.
A massive quake last month in the same region killed more than 8,100.
Officials are also now searching for a US Marine Corps helicopter carrying six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers that went missing while delivering disaster aid in Nepal's northeast.
