The Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation is taking on a significant project involving Manitoba's wetlands.
The MHHC is mapping and classifying wetlands in agricultural areas of the province, and sending their collected data to the Manitoba government for their Surface Water Management Strategy.
According to project manager Stephen Carlyle, Manitobans will benefit greatly from the findings of this project.
"Wetlands are a very important part of the landscape in terms of biodiversity and nutrient storage and they help with climate change. That is all benefits that every Manitoban receives from wetlands that are in agro-Manitoba largely on private lands."
Carlyle says the researchers currently working in the Whitewater Lake area, but they are expected to reach the Dauphin area before the projects scheduled completion in 2018.
