Lots of Deposits for RM Water Hookups

With more than the anticipated high-end of deposits, the RM of Dauphin says those individuals' connection fees for phase one of the water pipeline project won't exceed $17,000.

Reeve Dennis Forbes told CKDM yesterday they feel very comfortable saying that.

"We made that commitment to a ratepayer (yesterday), so I won't change it, but I am interested in seeing the quotes from the installers come in and I'll be very happy to see that number maintained."

71 people have put in a $1,000 deposit.

Winnipeg Woman Ends Life by Not Taking Insulin

An 89-year-old Winnipeg diabetic woman who had recently been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer has chosen to end her life by refusing to take her insulin.

And in lieu of flowers, her family is asking people to write politicians to show support for broadly defined right-to-die legislation, and to urge legislators to act soon.

According to an obituary published in the Winnipeg Free Press, Jess Bowness died March 3 from complications related to her decision to refuse insulin.

In the obituary, her family says they supported her decision to die on her own terms.

They also criticized the legal and medical vacuum that still exists around the right to die, noting her death took longer and was more distressful than it needed to be.

New Loonie

The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a new loonie commemorating the 100 years since some women first gained the right to vote in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta provincial elections.

The mint plans to issue five million of the new dollars.

The coin was designed by artist Laurie McGaw. The reverse features a 1916-era depiction of woman casting a ballot as her child looks on.

The announcement was made yesterday, International Women's Day.

US Primaries

Republican US presidential front-runner Donald Trump has notched three more primary wins, claiming victory last night in Michigan, Mississippi and Hawaii.

Rival Ted Cruz won the Idaho primary.

For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton won Mississippi's primary, but rival Bernie Sanders breathed new life into his longshot White House bid with a crucial, though narrow, win in Michigan.
