Manitoba MLAs Back at it in the Legislature

The Manitoba legislature has resumed with accusations from the opposition that Premier Greg Selinger is hiding bad fiscal news.

Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister used question period to demand the NDP government release a full budget next month.

Selinger says the government will only release a fiscal update, which contains less detailed information about the province's spending plans.

Selinger says because the federal government has not delivered its budget, the province does not have time to prepare a full budget before the April 19th provincial election.

Influenza Rise More Seasonal Than Significant

While influenza cases are up slightly, Prairie Mountain Health says it's just business as usual.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jasdeep Atwall says there's no reason for anyone to panic, as it's just part of a normal season trend.

"They are on the rise, but they rise every year at this time of year, and they're not really, really high numbers."

Dr. Atwall still advises everyone to get flu shots every year, even if the rates of people getting sick fall in a particular year.

Drugstores Believe They're Best Suited to Dispense Pot

Drugstores are chiming in about yesterday's federal court ruling striking down the law that forces patients to buy medical marijuana only from licenced producers.

A group representing some of Canada's biggest drugstores, including IDA and Rexall, says they are in the best position to dispense medicinal pot in this country.

The Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada says pharmacists are experts in medication management, and can monitor and track usage.

Shoppers Drug Mart released a similar statement.

The court set aside the decision for six months to give Ottawa time to craft new legislation.

The company, in partnership with James Richardson and Sons Limited, says the first building in the 400-million-dollar project is expected to be completed by July 2018 and the last two will be done by the summer of 2020.
