Many residents of Winnipegosis gathered together last night to voice their concerns.
A meeting was held by the Mossey River Municipality at the Winnipegosis curling rink last night in relation to tourism and economic development for the town.
People from Travel Manitoba and Parkland Tourism were there to let people know what they are as a corporation, how they can help them advertise the town, and also to hear what people had to say about all the different attractions and getting the word out.
Anna Shewchuck, resident of Winnipegosis who attended the meeting says, that as a community, in order to draw attention to tourists, they need to decide what makes them unique.
"First of all, we better decide what it is that we have to offer to people. Like we do have an awful lot of things to offer. But you know when you live in a town, you often look over things because you are living there yourself you don't think about tourist potential. We take things for granted."
With the restoration of their beach and dock, Michelle Quennelle, who's also a resident of Winnipegosis, says there is even more they have to offer to tourists.
"We often have really great fishing, as well we have our lakes that often attract individuals either for boating, kayaking, and canoeing. We have two wonderful museums and our churches have been restored, so we have a lot of culture and heritage to share. So I think that will be one of our draws."
Senior manager for Travel Manitoba, Lilian Tankard says that for them to be invited to the meeting they became more aware of the area that they were not aware of.
"It felt really good to be invited to Winnipegosis, you know it is really hard to invite yourself to these places. When they invite you, you know there's an interest. I learned lot's yesterday and I look forward in working with them to get them on the map."
After the meeting people were given a questionnaire to fill out for the municipality to look over.
