CF-18 Bombing Mission Ends

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan has confirmed the military's claim that Canada's CF-18 bombers are no longer in the fight against ISIL militants in the Middle East.

As M-P's in the Commons debated Canada's new plan for the ongoing US-led bombing campaign against ISIL targets in Iraq and Syria, Sajjan confirmed that CF-18 jet fighters carried out their last air strikes on Monday.

That's a week before the deadline the Trudeau government set for withdrawal.

National Defence data shows the jets conducted 251 raids over 16-months -- all but five of them in Iraq.

Canada will leave behind an aerial refuelling tanker and two surveillance aircraft to support the coalition.

Downgrade from OECD on Canadian Economy Projection

A Paris-based economic think tank has lowered its projections for Canadian, American and global economic growth over the next two years.

The OECD now estimates Canada's economy will grow by 1.4 per cent in 2016, down from its previous two-per-cent estimate .

The organization today also lowered its outlook for global economic growth this year to three per cent from 3.3.

It blames recent weak data from major economies including the US and Canada, as well as financial instability reflected in lower equity and bond prices worldwide.

New Exhibit in Winnipeg Showcases Work of Blind Photographers

Blind photographers are hoping a new exhibit at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will help showcase their talent and shatter stereotypes about the visually impaired.

An exhibit featuring over 100 works by blind photographers opens this weekend and runs until September.

The exhibit also uses 3-D technology to allow those with vision loss to feel some photos with their fingertips.

One photographer's work is embedded with braille while another is accompanied by a topographical print-out of the photo which can also be touched by visitors.

Photographer Pete Eckert -- whose work is in the exhibit -- says he takes pictures using his hearing and other senses.

Eckert says he hopes the exhibit will make people question their preconceived ideas about blindness.
