RCMP Tweets About Motorists on Bad Highways
R-C-M-P tweeted yesterday that some motorists were choosing to drive around barricades and down closed highways during yesterday's snowstorm in southern Manitoba.
Officers used the hashtag "ReallyBadIdea".
Shortly after 10 a-m, the province closed the Trans-Canada Highway between Headingley and Portage la Prairie as well as Highway 75 to the Canada-U-S border.
R-C-M-P said yesterday afternoon they were dealing with at least 14 collisions and many stranded motorists and vehicles stuck in ditches across southern Manitoba.
Winnipeg Homicide
Winnipeg police say a woman who was discovered seriously injured when they responded to an assault call over the weekend has died.
The woman has been identified as 39-year-old Mavis Ducharme.
Police say the homicide unit is investigating.
They're asking anyone who may have information about the death to contact them.
Trudeau to Unveil ISIL Plan
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to reveal today what role Canada will play going forward in the U-S led coalition fight against Islamic State militants.
Trudeau, along with his defence and international development ministers, will hold a news conference this morning in Ottawa.
The prime minister has long promised to withdraw Canada's fighter jets from the air campaign against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.
He has also suggested Canada may step up its training of ground troops battling Islamic militants, and increase humanitarian aid to victims of the conflict.
Survivors of Taiwan Earthquake Found
Officials say one of two survivors found today in earthquake rubble in southern Taiwan was shielded under the body of her dead husband.
Both survivors were rescued from a toppled high-rise apartment building, one of several buildings which collapsed during Saturday's quake.
The death toll stands at 37, but more than 100 people are still missing in the rubble.
