The Mountain View Teachers' Association is expressing concerns over the challenges Syrian refugee children will face when they come to school in Dauphin.
The group says the kids would not only have to deal with a strong language barrier, but as they are coming from a war torn country, they will likely have high levels of stress and anxiety.
Mountain View School Division Superintendent Donna Davidson suggested that the board might be able to receive additional English as an Additional Language support, and will consult with other school divisions to see what other supports they are providing refugee students.
Davidson says that, while two refugee families will be arriving in Dauphin in the next month or two, with the possibility of a third coming, it appears that only one child would be school-aged in 2016-2017.
She also says neither of the two confirmed families speak any English.
